7th Grade English
7th Grade Study Skills
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
7th grade English focuses on polishing previously learned skills and the importance of decision making skills. Students will participate in units about short stories focusing on literary elements, novels, figuative language, and library and research skills.

BASIC RULES:
1. Come prepared (paper, writing utensil, free reading material, and assignment if due).

2. Be on time (in room when bell rings).

3. Show respect for others and their possessions.

4. Be responsible and make an honest effort to do their best.

GRADING SCALE:
90%-100% = A
80%-89% = B
70%-79% = C
60%-69% = D
59%-down = F

HOMEWORK:
Students voted Monday and Wednesday nights as homework nights. On these nights, the assignment will be given within the last five minutes of class and will be expected to be completed when they in come the room the following day. On the other three days of the week, class time may be given to work on an assignment. If they do not get their assignment finished during class time, they will be expected to complete it before they come to class the following day.

LATE WORK:
Late work is accepted, but students will be docked 10% of the total points possible which will be subtracted from what they earn on the assignment.
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
7th grade study skills is a full year course that meets every other day. The first semester focuses on helping students realize when they are having difficulites with reading material and introduces some "fix up" strategies to help them overcome their difficulties. The second semester is designed to look at different strategies that can be used to help them understand the reading materials in specific core classes such as science, math, and social studies.

Students' grades are based on assignments involving the strategies they learn, weekly silent reading records (SRR), a book talk with me, and the completion of two Accelerated Reader books in their level as well as selecting other reading materials of their choice.
