Current Events

Welcome to Mrs. Reichenbach's Current Events class! This course is taught during second semester only. Students in this course will study events as they occur in our local community, state, nation, and world. They will examine media bias & propaganda, as well as become experts on events occurring in an assigned region of the world. Students will learn about global issues in order to increase their understanding of current events. Students will study world religions & cultures, the United Nations, poverty, forms of government, and more. Students are responsible for maintaining an ongoing portfolio of current events in the United States and from around the world throughout the semester. Student presentations are also a course requirement.

Current Events Portfolio:
Students in Current Events are required to turn in a weekly portfolio examining three national/local/state articles, and two country-specific articles. Each article response requires 4-8 sentences summarizing what the article is about, and 4-8 sentences reflecting on why this article is important, or how it has relevance to their own life. A maximum of two articles can come from one source in a week. Summaries and responses are to be completed using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc. Each weekly portfolio is due on Monday, and can include articles from Sunday of the previous week to Sunday of the current week. Two class days are devoted to portfolio work each week.
In order to provide adequate class time for certain topics of study, there may be weeks when no portfolio is due.
