This course briefly reviews 7th grade concepts with a much greater expansion. Integers, rational numbers, probability, and equation solving will be stressed. Most of these students will be enrolled in Algebra, or Algebra part 1 next year. Students whom we consider not ready for algebra at this time will enroll in a more basic class their freshman year.
Their grade will be determined by 100 point chapter tests, periodic 15-25 point quizzes, a notebook with daily work in it, worth 50 points each nine weeks, and a 20 point daily assignment grade each week. Any student getting below a 70% on a test can come in after school the day or day after the test score is given, and correct and demonstrate further knowledge. I will then give them bonus points, but they can't raise it above 70%.
If they get their homework completed the year will go smoothly. I will work with those who are having problems getting assignments completed after school as deemed necessary. This can be a great year for those students who have had difficulty in the past, but they have to work. |
